Ahhhh!!! Last year when a friend joined us for a few weeks in Greece I may have mention that Mark and I had reached something of a state of Zen when it came to bus travel. I take that back.
Maybe it's South America vs Indian buses (we'd just come from India at that point). In India, bus connections seemed to work, the distances weren't so huge and there were trains to mix things up. People were genuinely excited about helping us make sure we got onto the right bus and they were reasonably priced. Also bus food in India was generally a lot better - I miss samosas!!
In South America admittedly buses change from country to country but(!!!!) the distances are huge (we've easily spent 48 hours on buses), bus food options tend towards being a bit bland and unhealthy (with the exception of the ever present banana). There really isn't much in the way of alternate travel at our teeny tiny budget - you an fly but low coast airlines don't exist here. Oh and driving this rant = we're in Colombia where everyone lies to you! About the quality of the bus, the size of the bus, the time it will depart and the time it'll arrive. Sometimes about whether they even have seats!!! No seriously recently a bus company was going to kick an old couple off of the bus and give us their seats!!!
Hmmm. It's actually kind of nice to have something nice to say about India - I did like it, I also really didn't. Also to not be raving about how amazing Colombia is - after all this is the land of banana and kidney soup - it's certainly not as perfect as I make out!!
