Trillionaires in Harare, Zimbabwe

Whoops, I wrote this blog a whiile ago, but then the electricity in died (normal in Zim) and it didn't happen.

Mark and I have been given over 20 trillion dollars!  Yeap we're trillionaires.  Unfortuantely this doesn't mean drinks are on us, because we're talking Zim dollars so that 20 trillion wouldn't buy us a match stick!  Or the letter a!

We're in Zimbabwe at the moment, and have been absolutely blown away by how friendly and welcoming everyone is.  Of everywhere we've been I honestly think Southern African's are some of the most welcoming people we've come across.  Complete strangers, having spoken to us for ten minutes, have offered to let us stay with them, and people are so very kind.  It's also amazingly beautiful here, particularily the Eastern Highland region, which was where I was born.

So what have we been up to, we went to Kariba Dam, and had a slightly frustrating time trying to get onto the river (which is HUGE).  Unfortunately a lot of business (particularily those that deal with tourists) closed down during all of the troubles in 2008/2009.  However we did go to the awards night of the annual tiger fishing competition and proceded to have a great time partying with locals, and drinking way too much!

We've spent a few days in Harare with old family friends of mine, the Smits, who are lovely.  It was with their sun, Anton, Mark and I went on our camping trip in Norway with.  In Mutare we stayed with the Bridget and Keith Hollands, and also saw a lot of the Phillips.  We managed to go play 9 holes of golf at what the PGA calls the second hardest golf course in the world for the sum total of USD25  Now given this was my first time playing golf, and I was soooo unbelieveable amazingly terrible, I thought the caddy was pretty kind not to laugh everytime I tried to hit the ball.
