Camel Safari, Rajasthan

Just before Christmas Mark and I went on a three day, two night camel safari with an Irish friend called Keith.

It’s important to note that Camel’s stink and are extremely uncomfortable!!!!   They are also very ugly! Thirty minutes on these fiends from hell is enough for a lifetime!  Three days was torturous.

On the plus side (on this occasion), we’re in India so they weren’t that enthusiastic about making sure we went far, saw much or did much.  We were quiet happy to sit in the shade away from stinking camels for most of the day, and our guides were happy to sit in the shade and not do any work just as much!

Which is fortunate, because most of the time our guide, Issac, would disappear to go to friends weddings, or take another group on a safari and leave us with a 12 year old boy Keith (the iris guy) called Sticky Fingers  on account of Issac’s the stories of his theft from other tourists.  We did a thorough stock take before we left.

Being poor backpackers we booked the cheaper tour which involved sleeping under the stars.  Unfortunately it is freezing in the desert in the winter!!!  Amazing to sleep under the stars away from light pollution, but probably a few extra blankets wouldn’t have gone astray!  At one point I did actually think I was going to loss toes, and Issac was absolutely hysterical when it started to rain on the first night, telling us we were probably going to die!
All in all a real adventure, but no need to repeat I think.
